Forests are renewable natural resource, which require careful planning to manage it. Tree provide us timber for furniture, building material, fuel, fencing and fulfill a vital ecological role. They are the natural habitat of our plant and animal life, have an important bearing on our soil cover, water retention, wind and climate . Forestry is the art and science of managing forests. The art of raising and tending trees is old, but the science of forestry management is relatively new. It's central to our natural resource policy. Forest Research Institute, a deemed university, Dehara Dun offers M Sc in forestry which includes Economics and Management if you possess 50 per cent and above marks - 45 percent and above marks for SC/ST, with three year B. Sc. with at least one of the subjects namely Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, physics, zoology or a Bachelor's degree in AGRICULTURE OR FORESTRY.The course covers subjects like soil science , biology, forest ecology and environmental conservation, forest law and policy, forest management, micro economics, marketing and financial management, project work and dissertation. Two - years post Graduate programme in Forestry Management to candidates with at least three - year bachelor's degree or equivalent in any discipline recognised by AIU or AICTE as eligible for postgraduate studies. The programme has been recognised and equated as a corresponding Masters degree of an Indian University by the Association of Indian universities.
